Camping Sleepy Hollow RV Park and Campground Iowa

Camp Iowa: This is Cher with Sleepy Hollow RV Park and Campground in Oxford, Iowa. How are you doing today?

Cher: I’m doing good.

Camp Iowa: Great. How long has the park been there?

Cher: The park has been there for a very long time, probably close to 40 years. We do have new owners; they’ve owned it for about 8, 9 years now.

Camp Iowa: What are the most popular activities in Sleepy Hollow Campground?

Cher: We have several activities going on. We do themed weekends that entitles Wet & Wild Weekend, we do Redneck Weekend, there’s a Pirate Weekend. We do all kinds of stuff. We do activities for the kids in the afternoons on all Saturdays. We do movies in the evening. We do scavenger hunts in the morning. And we do a haystack ride in the evening.

Camp Iowa: That’s fantastic. Where are you located and what are some of the other attractions in the area worth checking out?

Cher: We are located on Interstate 80, Exit 230. It’s just west of Iowa City. There’s the Amana Colonies; that’s the German area. They came over a long time ago, and they have little colonies that are very, very well – a lot of people want to go there. We also have a town called Kalona, and that’s the Amish. The University is in Iowa City.

Camp Iowa: That’s fantastic; certainly a lot of things to do around the area. Within the campground, do you guys have a store, sell any ice or food, that type of stuff for campers that are staying with you?

Cher: We have a great store. We have ice, we have food, bread, lunch meat, we have pop and water. We also have wine. We have our local winery, and we sell their wine for them. We have a game room up at the store. We also have a racetrack for slot cars, and a lot of kids come up there and race their cars up there.

Camp Iowa: That’s fantastic. In terms of the camping, do you guys have any group sites?

Cher: Yes we do. We have several groups that come in. We have an area for the Boy Scouts; they come over and they stay. We also have church groups that come in, and we have family reunions there quite a bit.

Camp Iowa: Cool. In terms of the campsites in Sleepy Hollow Campground, how secluded are they? Or are they open? How are they set up?

Cher: They are open. We do have a lot of trees in the area, so most of the time you’re going to get a spot with trees. We have 30 amp water and electric hookup. They’re full hookups. We also have 50 amp hookups, which is also full hookups. And we also have just water and electric. They’re pretty nice sites.

Camp Iowa: If you could only spend one hour in Sleepy Hollow Campground, what would you do?

Cher: There’s several things you could do in one hour. We have a pool. A lot of people go to the pool. I would definitely do the pool. Holiday weekends, I would probably do the horseshoes. We have horseshoe tournaments there also.

Camp Iowa: Sweet.

Cher: It just depends on when you come.

Camp Iowa: And if you could just spend one night in the campground, which campsite would you choose and why?

Cher: I would say in the full hookup 30 amps, and it would be Site 80. It’s really nice. It’s right on the lake. Well, it’s a pond, and it’s really nice in that one area. You see everything from that.

Camp Iowa: Great, that’s fantastic. Thank you so much. We really appreciate your time.

Cher: You’re very welcome.
