A 27-year-old climber suffered from altitude sickness while climbing Japan’s Mt. Fuji last week and required rescue. The climber reportedly returned to Mt. Fuji just a few days later in an attempt to find his belongings left behind on the mountain, including his phone. He didn’t fare much better the second time, unfortunately. Once again, he suffered from altitude sickness and required rescue for the second time in the span of a week.

The climber, a Chinese student living in Japan, was on the Fujinomiya Trail (nearly 10,000 feet high) when another climber found him ill. It was just four days after the same man called for help near Mt. Fuji’s peak after developing altitude sickness on the trail and was air lifted out.

Comments on CBS News’ social-media post sharing the strange situation garnered mixed reactions.
“They should charge him extra for the 2nd airlift,” reads the most popular comment.
“It’s the old saying: ‘Fuji once, shame on you; Fuji twice, shame on me,'” another person joked.
“Well did he get the phone?” asked another.
(It’s not clear whether the climber actually retrieved his phone or not.)
