Some people really do have all the luck. Marc Matson is a fisherman who has had at least two separate incredible orca encounters off the coast of Alaska, and both have gone viral.

The first encounter, which Matson posted to his Instagram account in August 2023, shows an orca swimming straight toward him on the boat. Matson has a fish on the line, and he wonders if the orca is coming to take his fish. It’s a tense moment that leaves the fishermen on the boat awe struck.

A couple of years later, in August 2025, Matson posted another orca video. This time, several orcas surround the small fishing vessel, possibly drawn there from Matson’s catch. Once again, the fishermen are enthralled by the orcas.
