‘Do You See It?’ Copperhead Snake’s Camouflage Tricks Herper

A “herper” (an amateur herpetologist or person who searches for and observes reptiles and amphibians as a hobby) nearly stepped on a venomous copperhead, even though he was literally looking for reptiles. He shared a video of the encounter on Instagram, asking his community, “Do you see it?” When a copperhead snake’s camouflage can trick a herper, you know it’s good.

“As good as I am at spotting copperheads, I’m half-expecting to inevitably step on one or grab one by accident one day,” wrote roadtripmonster in his Instagram post. “They’re just too good at camouflage for me to pretend like that isn’t a risk I take every time I go herping in habitat with high copperhead population density.”
