Family Releases Never-Before-Seen Footage From Shark Attack

“Gosh, that was just awesome. What a beautiful turtle!” said Jameson Reeder Jr. to the GoPro camera he was holding as he snorkeled off the coast of Florida with his family. Shortly afterward, the GoPro drops to the bottom, briefly recording a shark as it grabbed ahold of the 10-year-old boy’s leg. Reeder Jr. ultimately lost his leg in the shark attack, and now, three years later, his family is releasing the GoPro footage of the moments leading up to the attack.

“Never-before-seen footage shows the moment a bull shark attacked 10-year-old Jameson Reeder Jr. in 2022, causing him to lose his right leg,” wrote Good Morning America in an Instagram post sharing the footage and interviews with the family from then and now.

In sharing more of their story, the family is also promoting their book, Rescue at the Reef: The Miraculous True Story of a Little Boy with Big Faith. The book documents Reeder Jr.’s recovery after the attack. Good Morning America’s piece on the family shows how the now 13 year old is bravely taking on life as an amputee and shark-attack survivor.
