A retired science teacher compiled a year’s worth of trail-cam footage showing wildlife that visited a log spanning across a brook in the Unkety Brook Wildlife Management Area in Dunstable, Massachusetts. In doing so, the community was able to see “the incredible influence of a fallen tree over a brook.”

Who do you think visited the log over the past year? Along with several species of birds, wild visitors included deer, bobcats, an American mink, and many more. The video underscores just how connected everything is within an ecosystem—it’s not just the living things that are important but all components, both living and nonliving.
