Livestream Shows Mega Den of Rattlesnakes in Colorado

At an undisclosed location in Colorado, a livestream showing a “mega den” of rattlesnakes is back up and running, now that the snakes are coming out of brumation. These snakes have not been very active during the winter, but as the weather warms up, things are about to get interesting again.

“You are watching a livestream of a Prairie Rattlesnake rookery at an undisclosed location in Colorado,” wrote Project RattleCam on YouTube. “At this rookery, hundreds of snakes overwinter, shed their skins, and bask in the sun. Dozens of pregnant snakes spend the summer here preparing to give birth and care for their babies.”

Researchers told local news that though it’s still a bit cold at the den site, the snakes will become more and more active as the spring continues on and rolls into summer.

“As the days heat up, the number of snakes out will increase, and we have a long and busy May to look forward to before the non-pregnant snakes depart for their feeding grounds,” researchers told 9 News.
