A man noticed splashing in his backyard pool, so he ran outside, only to find a drowning animal. He jumped into action, grabbing the pool skimmer net and carefully helping the exhausted animal out of the water. It was a marmot, and it survived, thanks to the man’s efforts.

“OMG. #PoolRescue,” wrote Peter DeNoble, the New Jersey surgeon and Good Samaritan who saved the day by saving the marmot.

After DeNoble plopped the marmot on the pool deck, he sat with it for a while, observing it and making sure it was okay. Though clearly alive, the animal appeared to be very tired after its ordeal. Thankfully, it walked away from its near-drowning incident.
Marmots are large rodents that live throughout North America, Asia, and Europe. Groundhogs (also called woodchucks) are a type of marmot, and some people in the video’s comment section believe this little survivor is a groundhog. Mostly, though, the comments praise DeNoble for caring about even the littlest of creatures.
Referencing the fact that DeNoble asked the animal if it was ok, one person commented: “Honestly, people that would rescue an animal like that and ask if it’s okay are my kinda people.”
