Man Saves Wild Horses Stuck in Mud in the Middle of the Desert

When John Johnson stumbled upon two wild horses stuck neck deep in concrete-like mud, he couldn’t leave them to die. So, he didn’t. He spent a good chunk of time digging the horses out of the mud, likely saving their lives. Since he couldn’t call for help, he did it alone.

Johnson shared a photo of the horses to Facebook, and he later shared a clip of him digging the horses out. He notes in his post that there were skeletal remains of other horses in the mud pit, suggesting other horses had met their fate there—stuck in the middle of nowhere where few would ever find them. Thankfully, Johnson stumbled across the two stuck horses that day and had the gear and the gumption to save them.

“Came across 2 wild horses stuck deep in some concrete like mud out in the middle of the desert,” he wrote. “I didn’t have phone or internet service. [. . .] But long story short, I had to dig some of the mud in front of them out with a flat border like stick that I found out there and then used a rope to help them out. By the time I was done I was a little dirty and [smelled] like stinky horse.”

The online community embraced Johnson’s effort, praising him for doing the right thing.

“There must be a special place in heaven for good people like you,” commented one person on his video.
