The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has launched a new EagleCam featuring live footage of a new eagle nest and the nesting pair of eagles that uses it. There was a sad ending for the last EagleCam nest, which fell from its tree in 2023, killing an eagle chick in the process. DNR searched for a new nest to livestream that fit all of its criteria and would hopefully have better luck. Once they zeroed in on this nest, they installed an eagle-nest cam, and it’s live as of today.

“Breaking news! We have found a new nest to feature on the DNR EagleCam,” wrote Minnesota DNR in a Facebook post announcing the news. “We look forward to getting to know this new eagle pair and watching their story unfold.”
Minnesota DNR says its EagleCam team visited countless nests after the first nest fell to find the right fit. Unfortunately, they couldn’t install an EagleCam at the site of the original nesting pair’s new nest.
“We know this is disappointing news for fans of the original camera, but these new eagles will likely win our hearts too,” wrote the DNR.
The original nest fell in 2023 after the main branch holding it up broke off due to wind and weight of the nest. The original camera remains, and Minnesota DNR has restored livestream access to it in hopes fans of the original nesting pair will be able to catch glimpses of them, since they remain in the same area and continue to visit the site of their first nest.
