New Study Reveals 10 Best Places to Camp in the U.S.

Are you planning fall camping trips, or perhaps already looking ahead to next spring or summer? If so, listen up. The Dyrt has released its 2026 list of the 10 best places to camp in the United States, and you really can’t go wrong with any of the locations on the list.

The Dyrt creates an annual top-10 list based on reviews and ratings from its vast community of campers. This year, the number-one spot went to a BLM-managed dispersed-camping area: Valley of the Gods. In fact, half of the top-10 list is made up of dispersed-camping sites that are 100% free.

Here are the top 10 places to camp, according to The Dyrt’s 2026 report:

1. Valley of the Gods, Utah
2. Scoria Pit, North Dakota
3. The Wall, South Dakota
4. Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park Campground, California
5. Elkamp Eastcreek, Washington
6. Mouth of Two Hearted River State Forest Campground, Michigan
7. Navajo National Monument Canyon View Campground, Arizona
8. Shavano Mountain, Colorado
9. Split Rock Lighthouse State Park Cart-in Campground, Minnesota
10. Sandy Springs Campground, Ohio
