Without warning, several boulders recently fell from a cliff surrounding a waterfall within Utah’s Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument. The rockfall occurred while swimmers–two young girls—were swimming in the waterfall’s pool. Thankfully, no one was hurt. A third person was filming when the boulders crashed into the water, and the video is now circulating widely as a warning to others recreating in similar places this summer. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is telling visitors to this national monument to be sure to look up and be aware of the possibility of an unexpected rockfall.

“Look up!” wrote Utah’s Bureau of Land Management in an Instagram post sharing the video. “This group of swimmers was shocked when several boulders fell off a cliff at Lower Calf Creek without warning. Fortunately, no one was harmed in this incident, but there have been injuries in the past.”
