Rebecca Long and her fellow mountaineers were practicing some ice climbing while waiting for their summit push on K2, when all of the sudden, an avalanche starts off in the distance. “Should we run?!” Long asks as she films the avalanche and the group’s reactions. The mountaineers ultimately decide they’re safely out of the avalanche’s range, and they stand their ground, but they can’t help but marvel at the insane force of the avalanche.

Long laughs nervously after asking if they should run, and another woman who’s about to climb an ice wall asks her comrades if they think she should get down. Thankfully, the group is safe where they are, and though the video stops before it reaches them, they likely got a big gust of wind in the seconds after the avalanche settles.
At 28,251 feet above sea level, K2 is the second-highest mountain on Earth. It’s second only to the great Mount Everest, which stands 29,032 feet above sea level. Long mentioned in her video’s comment section that when the group spotted the avalanche, they were just having some fun near K2 as they waited for their turn to summit.
