Sound on: Woman Stays Insanely Calm During Grizzly Bear Encounter

Most people feel terrified during a bear encounter, since the animals can be unpredictable. But not this guide who leads groups through the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia, Canada. This guide acted like a large grizzly bear was little more than a house cat when it came within five feet from her and just 10 feet from her group. A member of the group got the grizzly bear encounter on video and shared her awe at how calm the woman remained as the bear decided whether she was a threat or not.

“Oh no, you can’t come this way,” the woman said soothingly to the bear.

“How was she this calm?” asks Sarah Sekula in her Instagram post sharing the video from August. “This is not at all how I thought my 1st up-close [bear] encounter would go!”

Sekula says she was enjoying a six-day trip in the area when she had her first up-close encounter with a grizzly. The bear bounded down the stream, briefly stopping in front of the group, before moving on peacefully.
