Brooke Bartleson is a wilderness photography guide in Alaska, but even she assumes that when she sees an animal moving in her yard out of the corner of her eye—it’s probably just a dog. Spoiler alert: This time, it was not a dog. The animal stalking across Bartleson’s yard was, in fact, a massive brown bear.

“I was standing outside the work shed when I thought I saw a large dog out of the corner of my eye,” wrote Bartleson in her Instagram post sharing her video. “It only took a split second for reality to hit and for me to notice it wasn’t dog, it was a massive male brown bear huffing and jaw popping as he approached across the yard. This video was taken during mating season and he was pursuing a female bear who was running down the driveway tryin to get away from him. Was easily one of the best unexpected bear encounters I’ve had.”
