TikTok of ‘Terrifying Mountain Lion Encounter’ Raises Questions

A woman’s viral TikTok video, on the surface, appears to be her reaction to a “terrifying mountain lion encounter.” But as the video goes on, viewers start to wonder what is actually going on . . . and that’s not just because there’s absolutely no evidence of a mountain lion (which, by the way, there isn’t).

The video is from Carly Lepard, and it shows her face as she cries, calls out warnings intended to scare off the approaching predator, and then starts—well—then she starts singing. Lepard appears to be terrified, so at first we’re all on board, wondering how this is going to play out. But when she starts singing, claiming the lyrics are hers and no one else’s (especially not KENDRA’S!), we’re all left confused.

Is the Mountain Lion in the Building?

No, it’s not. Lepard’s a savvy content creator who knows that plenty of videos like the one she’s pretending to create actually do exist and go viral. In this case, Lepard is spoofing, and once you realize what’s happening, it’s funny.

“The fact that NO ONE understands this is a joke is SENDING ME,” wrote one person in the comments section.

“This is my first impression of you . . . and I swear you had me, then you started singing and you still had me,” wrote another.

“Had me believing there was a real mountain lion for far too long,” shared a third.

How long did it take you to figure out she was joking? What do you think of real-life videos people take of their encounters with dangerous animals on trails?
