Toddler Is Injured After Sticking His Hand Into A Wolf Enclosure At Zoo

Oftentimes, when people are harmed by animals, it is because they forget that wild animals are not the same as docile pets. This is particularly true at places where animals are caged, such as zoos and aquariums. The tigers behind bars or the sharks behind glass appear less menacing. Nevertheless, they are still wild animals, and they can still harm you, especially if they feel threatened. Unfortunately, one such incident occurred when a toddler was injured after sticking his hand into a wolf enclosure at a zoo.

USA Today shared details about the incident. According to the outlet, the toddler was injured “after crawling under a fence and sticking his hand into a wolf enclosure at the ZooAmerica North America Wildlife Park in Pennsylvania.”

Despite being supervised, the toddler managed to crawl under the perimeter fence and get up close and personal with the wolf’s habitat. It was there that he slid his hand through the fence separating him from the animal. A spokesperson from the zoo commented on the incident.

“A wolf approached and made contact with the child’s hand,” they explained. “This type of response is consistent with natural animal behavior, and was not a sign of aggression.”

How Is The Child Now?

According to ZooAmerica, the child sustained only minor injuries. Additionally, while they reemphasized that the well-being of guests and animals is of the highest priority, they acknowledge the necessary participation of their guests.

In doing so, they reiterated the importance of visitors to the zoo staying within the designated areas. Furthermore, they reminded parents and caregivers to supervise their children at all times. Both of these requests seem fair. After all, can you really blame an animal for being curious about someone placing their hand within their enclosure?

It is very fortunate that the toddler was not seriously injured. Finally, regarding this incident with the wolf enclosure, the zoo issued the following statement. “Our habitats are designed with multiple layers of protection, and clear signage and barriers are in place to help ensure safe viewing.”
