On September 11, a vehicle struck Joachim Lanham, a 24-year-old Norwegian man who was inline skating across America. He was 22 days into his journey from New York to Los Angeles. The incident occurred in Alta Vista, Kansas.

Local news reports that an off-duty police officer found Lanham lying by the road with injuries that would ultimately lead to his death. While investigating the scene, an elderly woman pulled up and said she’d hit something there earlier but couldn’t see what, so she had continued home.

Lanham was an experienced roller blader who had previously skated across Norway, from Oslo to Austria, and across Australia.
