Very Rare Animal Shows up on Pennsylvania Doorbell Cam

A rare animal with a genetic mutation has become a neighborhood celebrity after showing up on at least one doorbell cam in a Pennsylvania neighborhood. Local WNEP 16 News reports that a piebald white-tailed deer walked up to a home in East Stroudsburg, and the homeowners’ doorbell camera caught it on video. The video is now circulating widely online as many people marvel at the animal’s unique coloration.

In fact, there are two deer in the video, but just one has piebaldism—a rare genetic disorder that results in large patches of depigmentation of the deer’s fur. The piebald deer in the video is mostly white with some brown spots. Unlike albinism, piebaldism doesn’t affect an animal’s eyes or nose.
