Video Shows Precious Peek Into Polar Bear Den With Tiny Cubs

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on inside a polar-bear den, Polar Bears International (PBI) has created a video to show wildlife lovers exactly that. And it’s precious. PBI posted the video earlier this month, noting that polar-bear cubs are typically born around New Years and stay inside the den, nursing and growing, until mid-March.

“Right now, mother polar bears with newborn cubs are snuggling in their snow dens,” wrote the non-profit in an Instagram post sharing the video. “Cubs are typically born around New Years and are quite helpless, unable to see or hear with only one thin layer of fur to protect them from the cold. Maternity dens provide critical shelter to the fragile newborns, protecting them from the harsh Arctic environment. The mom and cubs will stay snuggled up in their dens for the next ~3 months, and will emerge around mid-March, once the cubs are big enough to withstand the Arctic’s harsh conditions.”
