Last month, a man named Nicholas Hamlett reportedly “befriended” Steven Lloyd and then murdered him in a wooded area in Tennessee. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office are still discovering details about the crime, and the suspect remains at large. The 34-year-old victim was an outdoors lover, and officials say Hamlett at first tried to stage the murder as a bear attack on a hiker.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, which has shared several updates on the ongoing investigation on its public Facebook page, law enforcement received a call from a “distressed hiker” on the evening of October 18. The man claimed to have fallen off a cliff while running away from a bear. When first responders arrived, they found a dead man with a fake ID tied to Hamlett, who has used various aliases in the past and is wanted for parole violation in Alabama.
Police soon realized things were not as they seemed and targeted Hamlett as a murder suspect. Then, earlier this week, police identified the victim as Steven Lloyd.
