A western North Carolina resident had a fright when a black bear showed up to raid the hummingbird feeder hanging from the porch. Though the feeder was hanging up high, the bear could still reach it by standing up on its tippy toes and pulling it down, shattering it on the ground. The bear then lapped up the sweet liquid and left a big mess behind.

Local news shared security-camera footage of the incident on social media and encouraged folks living in bear country to take down their bird feeders during this time of year.
“With bear season underway in western North Carolina, BearWise, a national program focused on preventing human-bear conflicts, is reminding residents to take down bird feeders, as bears are actively on the hunt for an easy meal,” wrote WLOS 13 in its Instagram post.
