Two animals you wouldn’t necessarily expect to see out in broad daylight went head to head in the Pantanal, a region in South America that encompasses a massive tropical wetland. Visitors to the Pantanal Jaguar Camp in Brazil saw a jaguar vs. caiman battle up close, and it surely became a highlight of their trip into the wild.

While both caimans and jaguars are more nocturnal than diurnal, this battle takes place in the middle of the day. The footage shows a jaguar poised on some vegetation peeking out of the river. Then, it pounces. After a scuffle, you see what the jaguar is hunting—a caiman—and the jaguar starts thrashing it around in the water.
Roger Benedik caught the moment on film and shared it to his Instagram account. Benedik called it an “epic battle.”
