WATCH: Mama Bear and Cub Break Into Home and Raid Fridge

Knock, knock, who’s there? It’s mama bear and her cub, come to raid your fridge. Sandy Zurek, who lives in the Tahoe Keys community of south Lake Tahoe, California lived this scenario recently, when two black bears opened the door to her home, came inside, and went straight to the fridge to find some food.

A home-security camera caught the bears opening the door and rifling through the family’s food for an easy meal. Local news shared the footage, calling it “a scene straight out of a wildlife comedy.”

Thankfully, Zurek’s home was empty when the bears broke in, and no one was hurt in the bear burglary. However, when bears become used to eating human food, it can cause issues for both humans and bears. Habituated bears learn to associate humans with easy food, and they can become aggressive.

If you live in bear country, lock the doors to your car and your home so bears can’t get in if they decide to try. When camping in bear country, tie up your food and trash or put it in a bear-proof locker.
