While snorkeling, you never really know what you’ll see, and that’s part of the fun. But one snorkeler didn’t expect a harmless-looking fish to turn on him and attack while he was peacefully observing it. Jeremy Wilmotte had an unexpected encounter with a titan triggerfish underwater, and since he didn’t end up getting hurt, the resulting video is pretty funny.

“I tried to play with the cute [Chihuahua] of the ocean. Angry little pest it turned out to be,” Wilmotte jokes in his Instagram post sharing the video of the fish attacking him as he’s snorkeling. Wilmotte credits the video to fellow snorkeler Ben Tayler.
As commenters note, the ornery triggerfish almost took off Wilmotte’s finger. In the video, he swats the fish away as it tries to bite him several times.
