WATCH: Stunning White Orcas off the Coast of Hokkaido, Japan

A whale watcher and wildlife photographer captured a rare sight off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan—not one but two white orcas swimming with their pod. Tokuyuki Hayakawa is an orca fanatic and has spent a lot of time over the course of the past 15+ years photographing them in the waters off Rausu, a town in the Hokkaido region.

In June, Hayakawa and his whale-watching companions spotted two incredible white orcas swimming with a pod of 20-30 other orcas. Hayakawa captured several photographs of the white orcas and has been sharing them on his Instagram profile ever since. He also captured a video, but you have to watch closely to catch a glimpse of the white orcas among the black-and-white orcas.

“This is the first white orcas I’ve come across after 15 years of photographing Rajan orcas,” Hayakawa wrote in an Instagram post. The orcas’ unique coloring results from a genetic condition, likely leucism, or possibly albinism.

See a compilation of Hayakawa’s photos below, along with one of his own posts and a video of the orca pod:
