Jeff Wirth, a wildlife photographer, recently captured two black bears play fighting in a deep spring pool in Tucson, Arizona. Wirth told local news that he’s spotted each of these bears individually on trail cameras in the area, but he’s never seen them together until this moment. Wirth theorizes that this display might be “courtship play.”

In the video, both bears stand up on their hind legs, and they’re about waist deep in the spring pool. The bears playfully swat at each other, taking breaks to shake water out of their fur and snuggle a bit, before play fighting some more. It’s clear the bears aren’t really fighting; their swats are pretty gentle, and both bears appear calm.
Wirth called this adorable scene “a surprise to see.” He set the footage to some playful music and posted it to Instagram, where many people have been enjoying it.
