WATCH: What’s Chasing These Fish? It’s Not a Shark

There’s a large food chain in the ocean, with plenty of animals in constant search of their next meal. A recent video captured this in action and raised the question: “What’s chasing these fish?”

The video comes from photographer Shane Reynolds, who’s also a TV personality and content creator. He captures amazing videos of sea life.

In this clip, you’ll have to wait a minute to see what’s chasing these fish.

“Once in a lifetime shot of a big school of jacks getting chased up the West jetty in Destin, Florida,” wrote Reynolds on his post.

In the clip, you see him cast an underwater camera into the water. It lands in the middle of a rushing school of fish, gets tossed around, and offers multiple angles. After dozens, if not hundreds, of fish make their way by, you finally see what’s chasing these fish: a small pod of dolphins.

After pulling the camera back in, Reynolds continues filming from the jetty with an overhead view of the water. Within a few seconds, a dolphin clearly snags one of the fish. The pod continues to circle and hunt for more prey.

While many people were probably expecting to see a shark, dolphins are also carnivores. Their pods are usually in search of schools of fish, like you see in the video. They’re also known to eat squid, shrimp, and jellyfish.

Not only do dolphins have similar diets to sharks, but they’re also willing to fight them. Research shows that a solo dolphin could be at risk of being hurt or killed by a shark. However, dolphins are often in packs, or pods, as they’re called. When they have greater numbers, dolphins can attack a shark by using their speed to ram its gills.
