WATCH: Young Girl Falls From Ski Lift, Miraculously Walks Away

A 12-year-old girl fell from a ski lift at the Mammoth Mountain ski area in California, and another skier caught it all on video. Thankfully, the girl was uninjured after the fall.

In the video, you see the girl’s mother desperately clinging to the girl as rescue crews scramble to set up a rescue net below her. Moments before the net was ready, the girl slipped from her mother’s grasp, and she fell onto the snow.

The person who recorded the terrifying moment says she shared her video on social media to educate others about the importance of putting the bar down when riding a ski lift. The girl’s mother responded to the video on Instagram, providing additional context to story:

“As the mother of my 12 yo daughter that fell today I really want to thank everyone who came out to help her. The mammoth team did their best to get to her as quickly as possible. It was an incredibly traumatic experience and everyone supported us. [. . .] As to the bar – we had no chance. She slipped down right away. There was nothing that anyone did wrong. It was a series of small choices that happened quickly that led to a fluke accident.”

This incident occurred on the heels of a separate ski-lift incident in Japan, which took the life of a 22-year-old Australian woman. Brooke Day died after her Avalanche Rescue backpack became stuck in the ski lift mechanism.

Today at Mammoth 1/31/26 ‼️ I wasn’t going to post this but I know so many people who argue with me about putting the bar down. It’s mandatory in Europe and it should be here. #snowboard #ski #mammoth #mammothmountain #skilift
