‘What a Total Bad*ss’: This Huge Lizard Can Eat Kangaroos

Growing up to 8.2 feet long and weighing over 40 pounds, the perentie (Varanus Giganteus) is one of the largest lizards in the world. This formidable lizard lives in Australia, and Damian “Wildman” Duffy describes it as a “fast, clever, and formidable hunter.” In fact, this lizard is so fast and so big that it can even eat kangaroos.

“With thick scaly skin, long claws, strong back legs, a whip-like tail and razor sharp teeth, the Perentie isn’t a lizard to be taken lightly,” Duffy wrote in an Instagram post sharing a video of the massive reptile. “It’s also the 4th largest lizard on the planet, and can eat just about anything you can find in the Australian bush . . . including small Kangaroos. What a total bad*ss.”

While a healthy full-grown red kangaroo would outmatch a perentie, a small red kangaroo could be on the reptile’s menu, if it really needed a substantial meal.
