Lions are the apex predators in the African savanna, but there’s at least one African mammal that thinks it’s a tough enough to take on four lions. Jérôme Guillaumot caught the moment a mongoose went head to head with the lions while he was on safari in Kenya several years ago. His video of the mighty mongoose is making the rounds on the internet again as a whole new group of people are coming to appreciate how bad*ss and brave this little beast was for standing its ground.

“An Egyptian Mongoose is surrounded by a of group of 4 young male Lions in Musiara Swamp, Masai Mara, Kenya,” Guillaumot wrote in the YouTube caption. “A fierce defense to survive this attack.”
At different points in the video, the mongoose runs from a lion pursuing it, launches a surprise attack (and one of the lions nearly jumps out of its skin), and gets booped by a huge paw. All the while, the mongoose yells “ahhhhhh” at the lions, and the lions seem to be curious, confused, and maybe also a little bit annoyed. The only thing the lions don’t seem to be is hungry.
