Some beach-goers didn’t expect to stumble upon a giant alien-like creature writhing on the sand in Cabo, Mexico, but they did. And what they did next is a testament to humanity. A group of people recognized the animal was struggling, so they worked together to move the fish back into the water. Turns out, it was a giant oarfish, a deep-sea species that can grow to be 36 feet long.

In fact, the sisters ended up seeing two giant oarfish—an extremely rare coincidence. Farther up the beach, a second massive oarfish was similarly struggling in the sand. Katie and some bystanders helped that one as well.
