When you come home from a long day of work, you may expect to see a couple of things on your doorstep. Perhaps an Amazon package, or some pieces of mail, maybe even a holiday surprise. However, one thing most people do not expect is wildlife sitting on their porch waiting to greet them. Well, that is exactly what a woman experienced when she came home and found a pigeon sitting on her doorstep.

Woman Finds Pigeon On Her Doorstep

Okay, out of all the wildlife in the world, I suppose a bird is not that uncommon a sight. However, I can tell you that I never came home to a pigeon on my doorstep. However, what was more surprising than the pigeon sitting there was its refusal to leave.
Oftentimes, if a bird is sitting somewhere and you walk towards it, it will fly off. Alas, that was not the case with this flighted friend. When speaking to The Dodo, the homeowner Mir shared that the pigeon had been sitting on her doorstep for hours. Additionally, it didn’t fly off when Mir entered the home.
“I kindly asked her if I could come in,” she told the outlet. “As silly as it sounds, she blinked at me and moved a step aside so I could go inside my home.” Despite the bird kindly letting Mir into her home, her worries did not cease. The night air was frigid, and the poor bird did not look like it was going anywhere.
She Learns Something Interesting
Later in the evening, when her brother left the house, the pigeon was still on the doorstep. Mir told the outlet that she began to get concerned. “It was freezing cold outside, and she had to come in. I’m no bird expert, but she didn’t look quite right.”
When her brother returned, the two initiated a rescue mission and safely wrapped the bird in a towel. Afterwards, they gently brought the pigeon into the home. Mir shared that after bringing the bird inside, she felt an instant connection. She told The Dodo that the bird looked at her with gratitude in its eyes.
That was when she noticed something interesting about the bird. The pigeon had two tiny metal rings with numbers around each of her feet. After some research, Mir and her brother discovered that the pigeon on her doorstep was a racing pigeon. Additionally, they found and contacted the bird’s original owner. However, Mir explained, “they made it clear they didn’t want her back.”
It took only seconds for Mir to decide what to do. She decided that the pigeon on her doorstep was meant to be with her, so she kept the bird. “For her own safety, I kept her. I got so attached to her that I would do anything for her safety and happiness.”
