Rare and Beautiful Blonde Squirrel Spotted at Botanic Garden

A blonde squirrel is running around Ventnor Botanic Garden in the U.K., and it’s as rare as it is beautiful. According to Ventnor, blonde squirrels sport light yellow or colored fur, not the usual grey or red, because of a rare change in their genes that makes their fur lighter.

Since this little squirrel does not have red eyes, we can assume the genetic condition is not albinism. Rather, it’s likely this squirrel has leucism, which causes “white coloration, white patches, spots, or splotches on the skin or fur.”

“We have discovered this pretty rare little animal here Ventnor Botanic Garden,” the organization wrote in a Facebook post sharing several photos of the unique animal. “We consider ourselves very lucky to see one as they are rare and pretty hard to come by!”
