Jaco Hubregtse considers himself a very lucky man. That’s because he recently stumbled across not one but two wolverines—one of North America’s rarest species—in the road. Hubregtse says he’s dreamed of seeing a wolverine for years.

“This morning at 4.00 am. I was driving and saw a moose just left of the road,” Hubregtse explains in an Instagram post sharing his video. “It stayed there, so all good and safe. Moments later I noticed something smaller, maybe birds on the road ahead? I drove slower and then I saw what was in front of me . . . no way! I’ve been dreaming of this for years! Two wolverines!! One jumped off the road into the bushes, but the other one was in no hurry. I feel like a lucky man to have seen those super impressive creatures alive!!”

According to the National Wildlife Federation, wolverines currently live in Washington’s North Cascades Range, the Northern Rockies (Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming), as well as a small portion of Oregon’s Wallowa Range. Wolverines also live in Alaska, Canada, and Russia.
The online community shared Hubregtse’s excitement.
“You may not even realize HOW lucky you were! That is really exceptional,” wrote one person.
“Very rare to see wolverines together what a incredible blessing,” wrote another.
