NPS Confirms Incident Amid Rumors of Death at Yosemite Waterfall

A few days ago, visitors to Yosemite National Park’s Nevada Fall witnessed a person go over the edge of the waterfall and went online to find updates. So far, there is no official information from the National Park Service (NPS), but NPS did provide a statement to SFGATE confirming that there was an incident.

One of the concerned eye witnesses posted the following on Reddit, describing the scene:

“There were a bunch of friends that were dragged by the current in the top of Nevada’s fall today. The girl was saved but another person with her went with the current to the fall. The helicopter arrived 1hour after the incident, but we don’t know what happened next. Do you have any news? I’m so sad to see that, I m so sorry for the family and friends of the victim. I [can’t] stop thinking about how fast it went.”

In a statement to SFGATE, NPS says it’s investigating “an incident” involving a 23-year-old man at Nevada Fall on June 20. “Emergency personnel responded to the incident, which remains under investigation,” the statement reads. “No additional information is available at this time.”

This situation is still developing, and details may change.
