The two pilots who recently died in a helicopter crash while fighting the Dome Fire in Yosemite National Park have been identified as Greg King and Ryan Cutter. The contracted aircraft company, Precision, shared the pilots’ identification yesterday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Sunday afternoon while the two men were working with a wildland firefighting crew to conduct “helitack rappelling”—the use of ropes to descend from helicopters and drop water in otherwise inaccessible terrain. Precision didn’t share exactly what happened when the helicopter with King and Cutter on board went down southeast of Ostrander Lake. They were the only two people aboard.
