WATCH: The Exact Moment Shark Attacks Inflatable Kayak

Jeff Tiddens was kayak fishing off the coast of California when, suddenly, a mako shark rammed into this inflatable kayak, piercing a hole in the bottom. He began filming just in time to capture the moment on camera.

“Have been wondering what I would do if a shark attacked my inflatable kayak. Now I know! Was trying to catch a yellowtail today out of Redondo Beach’s King Harbor when I hooked into this 4-5 foot Mako Shark,” wrote Tiddens in an Instagram post sharing the video. “It took about 29 minutes to finally find out it was a mako and within seconds it became chaos. I was trying to slowly bring it close enough to cut it free and it decided a better idea was to charge at the kayak and bite it! The power and speed were amazing and immediately I knew it had sank its teeth into the kayak.”

Tiddens says he was about a mile and a half from shore when it happened. Thankfully, the kayak has three different chambers, and only the floor chamber deflated. He reached shore still afloat.
