How To Jig For Walleye When Ice Fishing

Any avid angler knows that jigging for walleye can be tricky business. It’s especially frustrating if you can see them on a fish finder (along with your bait) and they still won’t bite!

If you’re trying to figure out how to jig for walleye that are being stubborn, there are two things you can try. The most obvious one is to change your bait. Switching back and forth between spinning spoons, flutter spoons, and jigs of different color will greatly increase your chances of success.

The second thing you can focus on is changing your presentation. Short flickers near the bottom can sometimes pique their interest. Other times long, slower raises of the lure will work. What’s important is that you make yourself known in different ways until they finally decide to hit it. If you find out what works on a given a day stick with it, and you just might end up with with a fish fry.
