Camp Massachusetts had a chance to catch up with Greg from Prospect Mountain Campground & RV Park who gave us some insights on what the campsites are like, what to do while your in the park and what area attraction is the most fun.

I’m not particularly great at backing up, so a nice roomy pull-thru site like number 52 would probably be a great choice for me, though one of our sites on the pond, like number 46, would also be really appealing too
Get To Know Prospect Mountain Campground & RV Park
When was Prospect Mountain Campground founded? How did it start?
Prospect Mountain has been around for decades, since the 70s. It started off small and was known as Boulder Park. After growing and changing ownership it became Sun Ledge and had a brief stint as a KOA park. After that it was renamed Prospect Mountain Campground and our family has taken ownership of it as of 2007. Though it has grown a lot a changed in a number of ways, it is still in many other ways the family-run woodsy campground it started as.
At our campground we have themed weekends every weekend throughout the season. One of our most popular is Las Vegas Weekend with a fabulous Vegas Night which concludes with a raffle featuring thousands of dollars worth of prizes including some of the hottest electronics. Another is Pirate Weekend featuring a game of water assassins that extends from Friday evening through to Sunday morning where every player is trying to track down and soak their target to win a cash prize! We have tons of family-oriented activities as well as bands playing on a number of weekends throughout the season. We also added in a brand new outdoor laser tag arena in 2013 and have had lots of fun with that.
Where is Prospect Mountain Campground located? What are some other attractions in the area worth checking out?
Prospect Mountain Campground is located in the foothills of the Berkshires in Granville, Massachusetts. We’re only about 45 minutes from both Springfield, MA and Hartford, CT and there’s lots to do including Six Flags New England, the largest theme park in the northeast!
There are lots of museums and historical locations all around us. The Basketball Hall Of Fameis a popular tourist spot in the birthplace of basketball: Springfield. And there’s also lots of fishing and hiking in the region for everyone who loves the outdoors.
Which one of the attractions is your favorite?
I personally have always enjoyed visiting Six Flags. Since our season coincides with theirs I don’t get much opportunity to do so anymore but it’s still enjoyable when I get the chance. Any fan of roller coasters and other thrills will love it. They also have a great water park. We even sell discount tickets at our campground the get into the park for cheaper than the kid’s price at the gate!
What are the campsites like? Are they more open or secluded?
While we do have some more open sites which are perfect for groups of friends and family camping together, most of our sites are wooded and private. Being in the woods and on a mountain, the lay of the land dictates the size, shape, and feel of each of our campsites and so each and every one has its own character. Every camper that stays with us had their own favorite spot to stay in since no two are the same.
If you could only spend one hour in the campground, what would you do?
If there were activities going on, I would love to join in. So many of our events are a blast to participate in or watch. I’d also play a round or two of laser tag as well as a game of mini-golf, search for gemstones in our running water sluice, and finish up whatever time was left in our heated pool! It’d probably be difficult to cram everything in to just one hour in our park!
If you could spend just 1 night in Prospect Mountain Campground, which campsite would you choose – and why?
That’s a difficult choice since so many of them are great for different reasons. I’m not particularly great at backing up, so a nice roomy pull-thru site like number 52 would probably be a great choice for me, though one of our sites on the pond, like number 46, would also be really appealing too. I love the sounds of frogs at night and being on the pond would be very relaxing for me.
