Get To Know Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground
When was Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground founded? How did it start?
Frenchman’s has been a campground for around 30 years. My wife and I bought it in 1995 and have built it up thru the years. It is family owned and operated. We are family oriented and our activities are planned for the whole family to enjoy.
What are the most popular activities in the campground?
The patrons enjoy the swimming pool, our monthly activities and the camaraderie between the campers. The campers enjoy meeting at a camper and cooking for each other while listening to music on the radio. Nothing can be compared to hearing hearty laughter and smelling the aroma of food cooking or the smoke of a campfire in the evenings.
Where is Frenchman’s Wilderness Campground located? What are some other attractions in the area worth checking out?
We are located in the middle of Cajun Country in the Atchafalaya Basin. You travel on I-10 to exit 121 and when you get off the exit you turn right and about six tenths of a mile down you will see our sign.
There are several Swamp Tours that are well worth checking out. There are festivals year round; such as the Crawfish Festival, Festivale Internationale; that are within driving distance.
Which one of those is your favorite?
If I had to pick a favorite it would be one of The Swamp tours as well as the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival in May.
What are the campsites like within the park? Are they more open or secluded?
Our campsites are open and spacious and we offer both 30 and 50 amp sites with full hook up at each site. Most of them are shaded with either a morning shade or afternoon shade. The sites are grassy and some do have gravel pads. All the sites have a fire ring and a picnic table.
