‘At Least He Was Polite’: Bear Rings Doorbell in New Hampshire

A black bear visited New Hampton, a town in New Hampshire, and wanted to stay a while. (Maybe it was the hot tub that made it want to stay.) A Ring security camera caught the moment the bear accidentally rings the family’s doorbell with its large, clawed paws and then sniffs around the porch.

“At least he was polite enough to ring the doorbell to see if we were home,” wrote the homeowner, Jay Lievens, in a post to the u local New Hampshire Facebook group.

“Is this for real? I love it!! What a treasure,” wrote one person in the comments section.

Suzie Lievens then chimed in to respond, saying: “Very real. We had a different bear visit the next day. The ring didn’t catch him and I only got about 10 secs of blurry cell phone video (I was panicking a bit, lol).”

Turn your volume as you watch and listen to a black bear as it rings a doorbell here:

Although behavior like this is funny and often cute, it’s important not to attract bears to your home by leaving human food, pet food, or even bird seed outdoors in bear country. If this bear had found food, it would definitely become a repeat visitor. Bears habituated to humans and human food can become dangerous.
