‘Beautiful Footage’ Shows Extremely Rare Andean Wild Cat Family

High in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru lives a rare and elusive feline—the Andean wild cat (Leopardus jacobita). They’re one of the rarest wild cats in the Americas and one of the most endangered felines in the world. Trail-cam footage of an Andean wild cat mom and her kitten from the nonprofit organization Big Cat Rescue showcases this beautiful species—one hardly any humans get to see in the wild.

“After three years of monitoring these elusive Andean wild cats, nature gifted us this beautiful footage—an inspiring reminder of why we continue working for their conservation,” wrote Big Cat Rescue in a YouTube post sharing the footage. “Don’t miss the kitten!”
