An Asheville, North Carolina man went out into his backyard to find a black bear, which briefly chased him behind a decorative brick pillar. The man pushed something over to make a loud noise and began speaking as calmly as possible to the bear. Thankfully, the animal got the memo and didn’t charge a second time.

“A Ring camera captured the moment a black bear chased a man outside his Asheville, North Carolina home,” wrote ABC News in a YouTube post sharing the footage. “James Pellerin said he had gone out of his back door to turn off a water hose when he was chased by a ‘large mama bear.’”
