‘Can You Spot It?’ News Chopper Pilot Spots Elk From a Mile Away

KSL News chopper pilot Ben seems to have a reputation for spotting wildlife from up in the sky. The Utah news outlet shared a video to YouTube showing a snowy peak dotted by dark scrub bushes and rocky outcrops. Amid this landscape, the chopper pilot somehow identified a dark spot that was neither bush nor rock; it was an elk.

“Chopper 5 pilot Ben can spot wildlife almost anywhere!” wrote KSL News in its YouTube video description. “From 1000+ feet above and nearly a mile away he directed KSL photographer Meghan to point the camera at the top of this peak above Pineview Reservoir and they captured the incredible sight on an elk lounging in the snow.”

As the photographer zooms in, you start to clearly see the elk sitting stoically in the snow. The question is, how did the chopper pilot spot that speck of an elk in the first place?
