Ever been curious about the private homes in Glacier National Park? A judge recently ruled in favor of private property owners like the Ambler family, who own a parcel of land within the Montana park.

The Amblers have been in a years-long legal battle with advocates for Montana streams and rivers over a partially built property on their privately owned land. Parts of the structure were allegedly constructed within about 20 feet of McDonald Creek, and the San Diego, California couple did so without first obtaining a permit.

However, a judge has ruled that the property isn’t subject to state permitting requirements and exists within a sort of “jurisdictional limbo.” As a result, the Amblers do not need to tear down their home in Glacier. They are, however, out many tens of thousands of dollars from the legal battle.
