Here’s How to Get Into U.S. National Parks Free in April

April is a great month to get out and visit one of the U.S.’s incredible national parks. Why? Because it’s springtime, for one, but also because April 20-28, 2024 is National Park Week, and on April 20, you can get in for free simply by showing up.

The National Park Service (NPS) says its parks and partners will be hosting events and activities for nine days straight to celebrate National Park Week.

Here’s a breakdown of each day and its theme:

  • Saturday, April 20: Discovery. Free entry on this day.
  • Sunday, April 21: Volunteers. Find opportunities to volunteer.
  • Monday, April 22: Earth Day. Join the global celebration.
  • Tuesday, April 23: Innovation. Celebrate innovative projects—both past and present.
  • Wednesday, April 24: Workforce Wednesday. Meet the NPS’s workforce.
  • Thursday, April 25: Youth Engagement. Learn about opportunities for youth and young adults.
  • Friday, April 26: Community Connections. Learn how NPS is working with communities across the country, within and outside of park boundaries.
  • Saturday, April 27: Junior Ranger Day. Become a Junior Ranger.
  • Sunday, April 28: Arts in Parks. Discover arts programs within the parks.

There are more than 400 NPS sites across the U.S., encompassing not only national parks but also national monuments and national recreation areas. You can find a park by state and make plans now for free entry on the 20th.
