The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) recently shared news of a black bear attack on a man and child, stating that the incident occurred on residential property outside of Bellingham in Whatcom County, Washington. The young boy, 12-year-old Robin Westgate, is now speaking out about the attack and sharing what happened.

According to an interview with KING 5, Robin went into his backyard to grab something when he came face to face with a large female black bear. He says he and the bear startled each other, and the bear attacked, but he fought back. His screams alerted his dad, Noah, that something was wrong. The elder Westgate got the bear’s attention away from his son, but the bear attacked him too. Both Noah and Robin walked away with minor injuries.
Wildlife authorities are attempting to trap the bear.
