I tested a lot of gear this year for Outdoors.com, but working on this holiday gift guide has probably been the most fun. There are some true gems on this list, and our team tried to find ideas for a wide range of people who love the outdoors. We haven’t included anything that I haven’t personally tried (in many cases with the help of my outdoorsy husband and kids).

Camping
Gerber ComplEAT Cook Set
Yes, it’s expensive, but the 16-piece ComplEAT Cook Set would be a killer gift for campers. My family upgraded to this set, and we’re never looking back. Highlights include a stock pot, a sauté pan, and a tableware set that has four plates, four bowls, and a mixing bowl.
I appreciate that this cook set nests together for easy transport and storage and that it’s really pleasant to use. (We’ve used other cheaper nesting sets that are not pleasant to use).
GCI Puff Rocker
I’m a big fan of GCI’s Outdoor Freestyle Rocker, but this Puff Rocker might have dethroned it as the GOAT (greatest of all time) in my book. Even if you have camping chairs already, this one would still make a good gift.
The puff rocker is comfy, cushy, and it rocks (literally). There’s a place to store a drink and a place to store your phone while you do more important things like eat, drink, socialize, read, or enjoy a campfire. I love it so much that I keep it set up in the backyard between camping trips.
Hykoont Multifunctional Camping Light
Hopefully I don’t sound too dramatic when I say that this product is a game changer. (In fact, my husband uttered those exact words on our last camping trip, which was our first with Hykoont’s multi-functional camping light.) All campers know how annoying it is to not have a powerful-enough lantern to light your space, especially this time of year when it gets dark early and there are hours left to enjoy before bed.
This light comes with an extendable stand that’ll put the beams up high to illuminate a wider area than your traditional camping lantern. You can even rotate the lamps to point the light where you want and need it to be. It’s bright, it’s easy, it has a long-lasting battery, and it’d make a solid gift.
Sea to Summit Detour Stainless Steel Kettle Cook Set
Campers will love Sea to Summit’s kettle cook set, which includes a collapsible stainless steel and silicone kettle and two stainless steel and silicone mugs. Like everything Sea to Summit makes, this set is cleverly designed and extremely functional. The 1.6-liter kettle works on gas or induction stoves, and the cups have silicone rubber sidewalls that’ll stay cool no matter how hot your drink. It’s altogether perfect for people who enjoy hot drinks on camping trips (aka everyone).
VSSL Nest Pour Over Kit + Java G25 Grinder Gift Set
Looking for a big gift for the coffee-loving camper in your life? This pour-over kit from VSSL is everything the recipient will need to make superb pour-over coffee away from home (except the coffee beans, of course). This gift set includes VSSL’s unique nested brewing system, comprising of two 10-ounce double-walled mugs, one BPA-free splash-proof lid, a double-walled pour-over coffee dripper, and the Java G25 hand grinder—all packaged in a gorgeous box. The set comes in traditional black and silver or a stunning cream-and-bronze combo (my favorite).
Why drink bad coffee just because you’re camping, after all? VSSL has made it so no one has to. This gift impresses from the start, and it will keep on giving every time you take it out.
Leatherman Signal Multi-Tool
No gift screams outdoors like a Leatherman Signal multi-tool. Among the many built-in tools the Signal packs are two types of pliers, wire cutters, a combo knife, a fire starter, and an emergency whistle.
When you carry a Signal, you’re carrying 19 tools in one, which sets you up for success no matter what your adventure may throw at you. Since it’s a Leatherman, you know it’s going to be a quality piece that you can rely on for a long time. I love the coyote tan colorway and, even more importantly, how I feel 100% more prepared when carrying this multi-tool.
High Camp Flasks’ Parkside and Torch Flasks
For campers who enjoy drinking wine and/or spirits outdoors, High Camp Flasks has you covered. The 375-ml Parkside Flask is perfect for bringing half a bottle of wine along with you on a camping trip, or try the 750-ml version if you want to bring a whole bottle. I love the high-end feel of this flask and the attention to detail in the design. The cup magnetically snaps onto the top, making it super portable and convenient.
The same praise applies to the Torch Flask, which has a magnetically integrated 3-ounce sipping shot glass—perfect for drinking Scotch around the campfire. The Torch also has a screw-off bottom cap for easy filling and cleaning. These flasks come beautifully packaged, and you can even get them engraved if you’re giving them as a gift.
Hiking
Nathan Sports TrailMix 2.0 12-Liter Hydration Pack
For the trail runners or hikers on your list, check out Nathan Sports’ TrailMix 2.0 hydration pack, a lightweight bladder bag with lots of options for organizing your essential hiking gear. Though not cheap, this stylish and functional bag is breathable, comfortable to wear, and surprisingly spacious. The company has knocked down the bag’s weight by 15% compared to the previous version of the TrailMix bag, and it’s noticeable.
Every bit of this pack is designed with hikers and trail runners in mind, and I have to admit, I’m a sucker for the unique periwinkle color. (It also comes in a more traditional black/silver combo.)
Merrell Moab Speed 2 Hiking Shoes – Men and Women
Designed to keep you cruising on trails that have some obstacles and “moderate debris,” Merrell’s Moab Speed 2 shoes for both men and women would make a great gift for hikers. I have found these shoes to be easy to wear (no break-in period required) and very comfortable thanks to details like a padded collar and a foam midsole. The Vibram outsole offers excellent traction that will keep you upright when it matters most. These shoes come in a range of colors that’ll be sure to suit the hiker on your gift list. I’m a fan.
Rocky Talkie Mountain Radio
For climbers, skiers, and backcountry hikers, Rocky Talkie’s Mountain Radio is a gift that will keep on giving for years to come. It’s a compact, license-free radio that’s easy to use, rugged enough to withstand the elements, and long lasting with a four-day battery life. I appreciate that the Mountain Radio doesn’t need to be configured; you can open the box on Christmas Day and use it right away. It has a max range of about 35 miles in typical terrain, giving the recipient the ability to stay in touch even when he or she is off the grid.
Outdoor Sports and Hobbies
Bird Buddy Smart Bird Feeder With Solar Roof
Dear animal lovers, this gift is so fun! Bird Buddy’s smart bird feeder is attractive, well designed, and sends you photos and videos of all the birds that visit the feeder, along with AI-powered species identification.
I love our Bird Buddy, and I highly recommend this as a gift for anyone who loves birds and/or wildlife. It’s easy to use with no subscription necessary, and the recipient can invite up to 10 friends/family members to view their birds, too. The integrated solar panel on the feeder’s roof eliminates the need to charge the camera.
Mendham Bicycles Villy Custom Bike
Before I started riding my Mendham Bicycles Villy Custom bike, I didn’t know how much I needed a beach cruiser in my life. It’s not a performance bike, but if there’s someone on your list who just wants to take a leisurely bike ride outside and enjoy the heck out it, take a look at these cruisers. Mine’s a Lulu, which comes pre-designed to look stunning in teal and coral. I love the cushy seat, easy ride, and attention-grabbing aesthetics of this bike. They’re reasonably priced, too.
Gonex Wooden Gymnastics Rings
Is there a fitness enthusiast on your gift list this year? These wooden gymnastics rings from Gonex are a fun way to build strength. We hung ours up on a wooden beam outside, and the whole family has fun playing gymnast. The rings are quick and easy to install—in fact, it’ll take you just a couple of minutes to get them hung up properly. The rings and straps both feel well made, and the set also comes with hand tape.
FMS FCX18 LC80 Toyota Land Cruiser RC Crawler
One of my favorite gift ideas for outdoor enthusiasts on this list is the FMS Toyota Land Cruiser remote-controlled crawler. It’s just good honest fun. Use the remote control to speed this little Land Cruiser around your campsite, the beach, or along a hiking trail, or go slow and steady over huge boulders for a challenge. My family and I love building obstacle courses for our little yellow crawler, and I’m honestly not sure who has more fun with it—the kids or the adults.
Veeniix V11PRO Drone
Looking to splurge on an outdoor hobbyist? The Veeniix V11PRO drone is an awesome toy for beginners and drone enthusiasts alike. This drone is fast, it’s sleek, and it offers 8k images and 4k video, as well as a 5x zoom. The Veeniix includes two batteries (each capable of 40 minutes of use) and an easy-to-use app that offers cool features like cruise control and waypoint flight mode.
As a beginner, I appreciate that the Veeniix V11PRO offers advanced features and impressive technical specs and a straightforward, easy-to-use interface and design. For anyone who enjoys photography, videography, or just having fun outdoors, a drone could be the perfect gift under the Christmas tree this year.
Home, Health, and Wellness
GroundLuxe Organic Fitted Grounding Sheet and Grounding Pillowcase
Grounding uses the electric charge of the earth’s surface to stabilize the body’s bioelectrical systems, which control a variety of internal functions. Typically, grounding means making direct skin contact with natural ground or water to restore your body to a state of homeostasis, but what if you could bring those same benefits indoors for those times you can’t be outdoors?
GroundLuxe offers a grounding bed sheet and a grounding pillowcase that offer the benefits of grounding while you sleep. To make it work, you must plug the sheet and/or pillowcase into the grounding port of a nearby grounded electrical outlet (note: it does not use electricity). I loved sleeping on these sheets, and while I can’t really quantify how much it did or did not “work,” if you know a person who is interested in grounding, these products would make a fantastic gift.
ActionHeat 7V Battery Heated Plush Throw Blanket
I can’t believe I went so long without one of these. ActionHeat’s 7V battery heated throw blanket is the perfect heated blanket for winter activities—whether that’s staying home and reading a book or playing games in your tent or RV. This battery-powered blanket doesn’t need an electrical outlet, which is so freeing, and I find that I use it way more often than plug-in heated blankets since I don’t need to stay close to a wall. Gift this to just about anyone who doesn’t like to be cold.
Hapbee Smart Neckband
Here’s a unique gift idea for those who are into natural wellness solutions: Hapbee. The Hapbee smart neckband is a lightweight wearable that emits magnetic frequencies that mimic the effects of substances like melatonin, caffeine, CBD, and others. (It’s like tricking your body into thinking you’ve consumed espresso without having the crash that some of us get after drinking espresso.)
I’ve enjoyed using the Hapbee wearable during times I need some help focusing. The companion app offers “blends” like my favorite, Deep Work, which uses the magnetic frequencies of nicotine and CBD to help the wearer focus and relax. Other blends include Deep Sleep, Wind Down, Morning Coffee, Creative Boost, and Loosen Up.
Breeo Live-Fire Grill
Ready for the ultimate gift idea? Breeo’s new Live-Fire Grill is about to become every outdoor entertainer’s best friend. If you know a person who loves to cook over an open flame, consider investing in the Live-Fire Grill, which brings the campfire to the backyard in style. Some features I love include the grill’s built-in wood storage, the removable ash tray (which makes clean up much simpler), and the handy adjustable airflow feature. My family enjoys making smash burgers on this grill, and we’re still exploring all the different ways we can use it.
Add on the Flat Top Griddle or bundle in some accessories to ensure you have everything you need to fire this baby up and get grilling right away. The Live-Fire Grill is compatible with all of Breeo’s X24 Smokeless Fire Pit accessories, including the super-cool pizza oven.
Smokey Bear Jigsaw Puzzle
My family has had so much fun with this Smokey Bear jigsaw puzzle from The Landmark Project, and I think it’d make a great gift for outdoor lovers. The art is charming, the puzzle pieces are big enough for kids (but not so big that it feels like it’s for kids), and the puzzle itself is just tricky enough to make it fun without being overly easy or overly challenging. Plus, The Landmark Project donates 10% of the proceeds to support wildfire prevention education.
Travel
Eagle Creek Gear Warrior Convertible Carry-on Luggage
Imagine if your carry-on luggage also doubled as a backpack. And now imagine that this magical convertible carry on was also designed with outdoor gear in mind. Sounds perfect, right? Eagle Creek’s Gear Warrior convertible carry-on just might be perfect. I appreciate how sensibly engineered this bag is for maximizing space and how there are details that’ll make outdoors-people swoon, like a zip-away cargo net for bulky gear and hideaway backpack straps for as soon as you’re done with the airport. I also like that this carry on is made from durable, 100%-recycled fabrics.
Eagle Creek Pack-It Essentials Set
The world traveler on your list will love Eagle Creek’s Pack-It Essentials Set—three little helpers that’ll make packing, unpacking, and living out of a suitcase better and easier. In this set are the Pack-It Reveal Clean/Dirty Cube organizer in medium, the Pack-It Isolate Shoe Sack, and the Pack-It Isolate Compression Cube in small.
So far, I’ve used these packing cubes for camping trips, and it really makes a difference in fitting more items in less space (and keeping those things organized on the go). Each part of this set is made from water-resistant, 100%-recycled fabrics.
Sea to Summit Foam Core Pillow
Good for travelers and campers, Sea to Summit’s foam core pillow is surprisingly comfortable and surprisingly portable. (It doesn’t seem like it should be possible to be both of those things.) The pillow has a built-in rolling closure that’s very easy to use, and the flap even has a nice little pouch for storing items like headphones and a sleep mask. Pick up this low-cost gift item for anyone who might like a touch of comfort on the go.
Apparel and Accessories
Roark Passenger 27L 2.0 Bag
This bag is bound to impress when given as a gift. The 27-liter day pack has a unique magnetic roll top that secures the main compartment. It also has two waterproof pockets, a hidden pocket for your wallet or passport, a padded sleeve for a laptop, and internal and external mesh storage pockets. Although it seems like the adventure backpack has been done so many times that no bag is really novel, Roark’s Passenger 27L truly stands out, and it has quickly become my favorite.
Melin Coronado Brick Infinite Thermal Hat
Melin hats are top notch in terms of design and quality, and the Coronado Brick Infinite Thermal is no exception. My husband loves the micro-fleece lining and how it retains heat without making him feel too hot.
Melin’s thermal line really is perfect for the colder months of the year, and you can’t go wrong with a classic style like the Coronado in black, peanut-butter brown, or granite grey. The attention to detail in Melin hats’ designs will blow you away.
Smartwool Isto Retro Beanie
I’m a fan of Smartwool Merino wool apparel, including the Isto Retro beanie, which comes in several adorable colors. This beanie won’t make your forehead itchy, but it will keep your head nice and warm this winter. Gift this to a friend or a loved one who likes to adventure all year around and look good while doing it.
Muck Boots Chore Mid Boot – Men and Women
Whether you’re setting up camp or taking care of the garden, Muck Boots has excellent waterproof boots that’ll serve outdoor enthusiasts well this winter and beyond. Muck Boots’ Chore collection are best sellers thanks to the boots’ rugged reliability—they really can handle any dirty job.
The Chore Cool collection (available in men’s sizes) offers XPRESSCOOL technology that will help keep your feet from overheating. The women’s version offers breathable mesh lining. Both the men’s and women’s versions have an easy-to-clean rubber outsole and reinforced arch support. Gift Muck Boots to someone on your list whose work or hobbies get dirty or muddy.
Pistil Designs Minzy Beanie and Mitten Set
Make winter warmth the main gift with Pistil Designs’ Minzy Set, which includes a cable-knit beanie and matching mittens. I adore the Ash colorway that I have—and it’s not only the look of them that I love but also their performance. The mittens are so soft and warm, and the hat fits just right. Keep your loved ones cozy with this cute, giftable set!
Manitobah Floret Beaded Wristlet Bag
For less than $50, this beautiful (and handmade!) Floret Beaded Wristlet Bag from Manitobah is sure to impress someone on your list. Made from high-quality leather with lovely beadwork, this little wristlet will fit my smartphone, a credit card or two, keys, and a lip balm. It’s a minimalist’s dream. Plus, when you buy from Manitobah, you are directly supporting Indigenous people and celebrating Indigenous culture in an authentic, meaningful way.
Manitobah Micro Mukluk
Designed by Cree artist Heather Endall, Manitobah’s Micro Mukluk is one of my favorite gift items on this year’s list. Sold in women’s sizes only, these ankle-height mukluks are so cozy and warm thanks to materials like suede, faux fur, and sheepskin, while also being beautiful and stylish. A versatile gift for the women on your list, the Micro Mukluk is sure to bring a smile to the recipient’s face, and her feet will be happy, too.
When you buy from Manitobah, you are directly supporting Indigenous people and celebrating Indigenous culture in an authentic, meaningful way.
Black Diamond First Light Stretch Hoody – Men and Women
From climbing to skiing to hiking to ice skating, winter pursuits will be better in the Black Diamond First Light Stretch Hoody. This giftable hoody is comfortable and warm, plus it stretches to allow for movement, which is key when you’re being active. I love mine in the soft ochre color, but the men’s and women’s versions are available in several other colorways that are less flashy.
The First Light Stretch Hoody has 20D nylon ripstop face fabric and a stretch liner. Bonus features include an adjustable, climbing-helmet-compatible hood and the ability to stuff into its own internal mesh pocket for ultimate packability.
Roark Layover Pants – Men and Women
If gifting clothes doesn’t scare you, these Layover pants from Roark are a great choice for active adventurers and/or frequent travelers. The pants come in a different design for men and women; the men’s version (pictured) are full length, while the women’s version are three-quarter length. Both versions are very comfortable and come in a variety of colors. I recommend sizing down in these if you’re on the fence between two sizes.
Skida Chateau Hat
The cutest pom-pom hat for the snow bunny or ski fanatic in your life just might be this Chateau Hat from Skida. I love the elevated design and look of this hat, as well as the comfortable fit and the classic Ecru color (although it does come in a variety of other colors as well). Made from recycled fleece, Skida’s Chateau hat is proudly made in the USA. I share this hat with my daughter, and she loves it too.
