“A unique morning call today. Engine 201 was dispatched after a jogger called 9-1-1 to report an owl tangled in fishing line dangling from a power pole. As our mission states, we serve with CARE (compassion, accountability, respect and excellence) no matter who our patient is,” wrote the Mesa Fire and Medical Department. “When crews arrived, they found the owl suspended by one wing, alert and responsive to its surroundings. Salt River Project crews cut the fishing line and carefully lowered the bird. [. . .] Crew members secured the owl in a blanket to keep it calm and prevent further injury.”
An update in the comments section suggests the owl had minimal injuries. Wildlife officials plan to release the animal within a few days.
